The HiTi S420 printer has been discontinued, but that doesn't mean an S420 or S400 already in service needs to stop working. This is the genuine paper and ribbon consumable these printers were built around, packaged as 12 individual 50-print packs rather than a large roll — the format HiTi designed specifically for ID, passport, and kiosk-style printing where packs get swapped often throughout the day.

Compatibility
This kit is built specifically for the HiTi S420 and HiTi S400. It is not interchangeable with the P310W, P322W, P525L, P630A, M610, P750L, P720L, or any other HiTi printer — each uses its own dedicated media format. Confirm your exact printer model before ordering.
Ribbon not recognized? Current-production S-series media no longer uses an RFID chip on the ribbon. Older S420 and S400 units may need a one-time firmware update from hiti.com before they'll recognize this generation of media — it's not a sign of a defective kit.
Why Genuine HiTi Media Matters
HiTi's dye-sublimation printers are calibrated to a specific paper-and-ribbon pairing. Third-party or mismatched media is one of the more common causes of feed errors, color drift, and inconsistent output over time — a real risk for ID and passport photo work, where consistent color and sizing matter for acceptance. Genuine media also carries the Magic Coating protection HiTi engineers into its S-series consumables, which third-party alternatives don't replicate.
Storage & Planning Ahead
Store unopened packs below 75°F (25°C) at 40-60% relative humidity, away from direct sunlight and dust. Because the S420 is a discontinued printer line, we'd recommend keeping a spare case on hand rather than reordering at the last minute — availability of S-series-specific media may become more limited over time.

Is the S420 printer still available new?
No, HiTi has discontinued the S420. This print kit is intended for operators who already own an S420 or S400. For a currently available compact ID/passport printer, see the HiTi P322W.
Does one kit work for both the S420 and S400?
Yes. This media is compatible with both the S420 and its predecessor, the S400, so a mixed fleet can share the same consumable.
Why is my printer not recognizing the ribbon?
This generation of media no longer uses an RFID chip on the ribbon. If your printer runs older firmware, update it via hiti.com's support and downloads page — this isn't a sign the kit is defective.
How many prints does this case produce?
